DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) - A southwest Kansas agricultural co-operative is getting a tax break to build a grain-handling plant outside Dodge City.
The Ford County Commission has approved a 10-year, 100% tax abatement for Pride Ag Resources' $3.5 million plant. The operation is designed to reduce the number of haulers entering downtown Dodge City to reach Pride Ag's elevator.
The Dodge City Daily Globe reports that other counties expressed interest in attracting the grain-handling plant. But company officials said the prospect of a tax break gave Ford County the edge as the most attractive site for the project.
The abatement applies only to the new plant in rural Ford County, not to its existing property within the Dodge City limits.

The Dodge City Globe reports James was off-duty at the time of the incident. The state agency wrapped up its investigation in February and submitted the case to the Ford County attorney. The case was turned over to the state attorney general's office
The Globe learned of the announcement after business hours and was unable to track down James' cell phone number. He was not listed in the Dodge City phone book. James' resignation is the latest development in a case that began in December 2010,
