Everyone needs some fun in life and there’s a place where people of all ages can get away for awhile and just relax. Amazone at 2789 Medina Road (Route 18 just east of I-71) lives up to its promise of being a family entertainment center.If you see the logo, you’ll notice it says Rockin’ Robin’s Amazone. That would be Robin Creswick, who fulfilled a dream by opening the huge center six years ago.
“I have kids who span different age groups,” Creswick explained. Years ago, we were all together at a kids’ play place but there was nothing for the little ones. I had to sit with them and wait. There was no food, nothing to do.”
That’s when she had the idea there should be a place for everyone, from the youngest toddlers to parents and grandparents. “Parents just want to have fun, too,” she said.
That’s how Amazone was conceived. She began looking for places to house this imaginary dream. She found I-71 Plaza, the same location as the Medina Antique Mall, and it at least had very high ceilings that were needed for a playground.
“There were walls between empty stores and I didn’t know if it would work. But altogether, there was 19,000 square feet of space; the restrooms were already built; and it was so close to major highways that everyone could get here easily,” she recalled.
Another of her lifelong loves has been the jungle. So it when she found an equipment company that had a jungle-themed playground, it sealed the deal.
Once the walls were gone, the space turned out to be perfect. The youngest children have a jungle gym area with every type of climbing and sliding equipment – all big and sturdy enough that parents or older siblings can join them. “Most places make the parents sit and wait,” Creswick said. “Here they can join right in if they wish.”
Then comes the laser tag area. Enter next to the playground and get your instructions and equipment you’re on the road to hours of jungle-themed laser fun with friends.
In the center is the comfortable lounge and dining area, along with the food stand and redemption center. Adults can bring their computers and work with wi-fi available, read their newspapers or magazine on a sofa or have a beverage or food.
To the far east end is the game room filled with machines that take players’ tokens and, when a player wins, spit out tickets that are good for prizes at the redemption center. It is filled with bright lights and amusing sounds and is sure to especially please teens and adults.
